formosa has changed. according to their facebook page, 11 marist drive is now japanese sushi, all you can eat asian fusion, and bento boxes. the place on 11 marist drive has moved to city of poughkeepsie, 825 main street (in the old coppola's), right before the 44/55 arterial split. phone number is 471-1218. haven't gone there yet, hope to go sometime this week. i believe steamed small minced pork buns = xiao long bao.

update to things. twisted soul is still doing their stuff, with more cupcakes and desserts in the main location, but they've opened two new locations. one is vegan/vegetarian-centric, near marist college, and is called naked food concepts. haven't tried it, but i'm not their target audience. the other is across the street from twisted soul, called intro. the basic idea is the food is already prepared and waiting in some keep-warm device, and is like a higher end dinner to-go. they change the menu weekly; i've been and had a delicious pork dish with brussel sprouts? and a couple sides. there are usually 2 or 3 options for the 'main', i think each week the sides change but are the same across each main dish. i've also seen vegetarian options (one was king oyster mushroom). it's $12, and the interesting part is it tastes fresh (even though it was prepared earlier), and takes less than 5 minutes to order your food and leave the store.

We've been back a few times now. They have a good special, a pint with a pizza (bar size) or burger. I think it's 12-14 for the 2 of them. Not a bad deal. Fish tacos were good and under 10. Same fries though... wish they'd make their own!

Years and years and years ago, my grandfather was offered the opportunity to buy it when he was looking to open a pharmacy. When we went to the god-knows-how-many restaurants it has been over the years, I used to think about what a ginormous pharmacy that would've been. Clearly, he must've thought so too and didn't pursue the property.

The Bier Abbey, Schenectady

We went to The Bier Abbey for the first time recently. Were headed to Saigon Spring, then decided its been awhile since we'd been to Cella Bistro . . .couldn't find parking near Cella Bistro . . .headed toward Union Street and ended up at The Bier Abbey. Grabbed a parking spot in the lot near Manhattan Exchange (not sure if this is also parking for The Bier Abbey but the car was still there after dinner). We didn't have a reservation. Hostess was warm and professional. Seated us right away. Now on to the food: We started with Belgian fries, mayo and ancho mayo. Very good. Also had fresh mussels Thai curry, coconut milk, green Thai curry and wheat bier. Served with grilled bread. At 2 lbs enough for two. I liked the smaller mussels, very tender. SO had fish and chips (really Belgian frites). Enormous piece of fish. Enough for 2-3. I don't remember what biers we had. I had a dark, IPA. Our server was knowledgeable about the biers and made a good suggestion when I told him what I liked. SO had a beir he didn't care for. Me either. His second choice was better. Excellent value. Service was professional and attentive. Love the architecture of the older buildings in Schenectady, Troy, Albany and grateful when they are restored. Place could be lively (and noisy as more bier gets consumed). The smaller rooms vs. one large open dining room helps with the noise level some. We were seated in a corner in one of the rooms closest to Union Street. Based on our experience, their tag line "Great beer. Great service. Great food" seems appropriate.

After a LONG period of no activity, the windows and doors have been papered over for at least a month. I couldn't see inside well, but it looks like work is being done. Anyone hear anything?

Check out Crabtree Kittlehouse. I looked there and really liked it. My only concern was that in November it would be too cold to have my ceremony outdoors, and that was really one of the nicer things about the place. I don't know if they can do $100/person, but maybe on a Friday or Sunday you can have better luck. Also, a friend got married at Bear Mountain Inn, and that was very nice. Outdoor ceremony/indoor reception. I think its more budget friendly. NYC folks can get there by cab from train. $100 or less within 2 hours of NYC on a Saturday night is really really hard!

I updated my post.. it was Twisted Oak. And I noticed that their HVRW write-up on Lohud wasn't all that positive, either. Maybe it's a matter of their being new and being able to handle the load (the duck lasagna was great) . And here's a picture of the knife. It reminded me of old cheap knives I have at home (and try not to use). And I showed a picture of it to a restaurant owner (of a well known not high end place) who I happened to sit next to at Saint George tonight and he and his dining companion agreed with me.

Most restaurants on the North Fork carry Blue point and local North Fork oysters. I did have a dozen at the Grand Central Oyster Bar Saturday.

Fortune Wheel in Levittown has Sauteed String Beans (with meat) on their menu. It rang a bell so I checked the menu on line. It's been a while but I remember liking their crispness and I always add chili paste because I like things spicy.

yes, ultimately he did in Bronxville. But whenever we ate at Bartholomew's and every other incarnation of it, he talked about how he envisioned the space.
